Monday, May 18th – I’ve written articles on Elder Dragon Highlander before, and I enjoy the format. Other writers talk about it more often, so I’ve allowed them to take up the space on this format, but I still like it. EDH is enjoying a great bout of sunshine as the casual format du jour, and no one knows whether it will be long lasting or not.
…The deck sports several ways of sweeping the board, from flyers (Arashi, Silklash Spider) to all creatures (Wrath of God…

I was curious about how the lag time and various MTGO problems have affected league play. I decided to join some leagues and check out the quality of the competition, how long I have to wait for games, how often new leagues spawn, the number of players, the payout, etc. I might even open some useful cards.

Vintage is full of Fish lately. Where does that leave us? We live in an environment without predators, instead allowing those lower on the food (power) chain to go unchecked. Why is this? The Fish have been the ones putting all the work into innovating and really getting down to the nitty-gritty. An important deck building skill is to examine the popular decks and figure out what exactly their weaknesses lie.

Monday, February 15th – Zoo is one of the most statistically common decks in Legacy, but it takes on many forms. In this week’s column, Doug looks at five different variations and suggests that Zoo is most powerful when it is focused on one of these builds. He considers the core of the deck alongside different interchangeable additions with an eye toward crafting Zoo to beat a certain metagame. Find out the standard and experimental types of Zoo in this week’s Legacy’s Allure!

Cog Elemental has added some key rares since its initial Nuts and Bolts decklist, but the heart of the deck is still a pile of commons and uncommons. Heck, most of the variations I discussed last Friday are also fairly rare-light. One of the comments I’ve heard from several people online and in the Forums is that the deck can be built for far less than $50 total. Even still, on this penultimate day of my experiment, I want to retrace my steps and look at how to make a version of the deck that is truly”lite” (a phrase I coined on magicthegathering.com meaning”without rares”).

Monday, June 16th – The graveyard is a very powerful resource in Legacy. Many different decks make use of it, for very different purposes. Threshold uses it to fuel Nimble Mongoose and Tarmogoyf. Eva Green cheats Tombstalker into play by delving its graveyard. There are many other examples, but there is one deck in Legacy that relies almost entirely on its graveyard to win the match…

Tuesday, April 27th – After taking a week off of EDH League for visiting family, I was once again ready to dive into slinging the 100 card decks. Although I’ll play Kenny’s contest-winning deck a few more times in the league, it felt like it had been such a long time since I had played Kresh, I was itching to trot it out.
